Name of Shop: Community Thrift Shop of Gurnee
The Community Thrift Store of Gurnee is not for everybody. If you are not into Garage Sales or Flea Markets, then this store is not "your cup of tea"!
If, on the other hand, you love a bargain and are willing to put up with chaos, then you'll feel right at home!
This is a store that takes people's used or new items (left overs from Garage or Estate Sales). They also receive new items from stores with excess inventory.
This is a HUGE store (it used to be an Appliance Store many years ago). Many Hispanics shop here so the clerks speak Spanish as well as English.
Clothing is NOT organized by size. It is organized by the type of clothing. For example, all the coats are together.
It's quite shocking the first time you go there because the prices are quite low for the quality.
Remember, some days there will be plenty of things you would like to buy; however, there are days when you cannot find anything worth buying.
What To Buy: The store is divided into:
Woman's Clothing
Men's Clothing
Children's Clothing
Jewelry (up at check-out counter)
Books (in the back of the store)
Records, tapes, CD's
Cosmetics (front counter)
Furniture (back of store on west side)
Housewares (west side of store)
small appliances (west side of store)
dishes and kitchen items (west side of store)
Up at the very front of the store, they place special items (mostly new ones)
If you happen to receive a receipt with RED STARS on the back, you will receive $5.00 off your next bill. (I received this just yesterday!)
Wednesdays are Senior Day for 25% off if you are 55+
They also give breaks to Military Personnel.
What To Pay: Paperbacks range from 22 cent to $1.21
Toys from mere cents to a few dollars
Furniture from $3.00 to $200
Clothing from 44 cents to $50.00+

Directions: I-94 to Grand Avenue Exit East for more than a mile and just before entering Waukegan is the store (north side of Grand). If you reach Green Bay Road, you have gone too far!

It's kind of sad to see our agricultural lands disappear, but nice to miles of trails, beautiful golf courses and and IMAX! That 9 hole course where Alan works at sounds challenging! |
