A Nice Kind of Old Fashioned Village Gurnee, Illinois, is in a wonderful location tucked into the northeastern corner of Illinois between Chicago and Milwaukee with beautiful natural resources, many shopping centers in or nearby, a myriad of dining places, great recreational facilities, abundant educational opportunities, and diverse job availability. In addtion, there are several health care facilities within a few miles.
The village of Gurnee is located in Lake County, Illinois, which has often been called "a mecca for all that's great in Illinois."
Another advantage of this area is that it is home to some of the most fertile topsoil in the world,"a heavy black loam deposited 50,000 years ago by the receding Wisonsin glacier."
Gurnee, and the rest of Lake County, was once a "prairie, barely touched by the plow and the homestead, and still was the home of the Potawatomi Indians."
Today, Gurnee is no longer the agricultural area it was (just 15 years ago); instead, it consists of business and suburban homes, townhouse, and apartments.
Another positive about Gurnee's location is that it is so near to the Tri-State Tollway. Additionally, there is easy and close access to O'Hare International Airport of Chicago as well as General Mitchell Field in Milwaukee.
Gurnee's neighbor, Waukegan, has the Waukegan Regional Airport that is an international facility complete with a U.S. Customs Office for the many corporations which "hangar" their corporate aircraft there. Also, Gurnee is part of the public bus route on Pace Bus Lines.Likewise, four Metra commuter railroad lines run through Lake County.
Gurnee has two golf courses, an Aquatic Center, an amusement park, a 200+ store shopping mall. the famed Tempel Farms (home of the world-famous Lipizzan horses), several parks, a Senior Center, numerous hotels, two high schools, and at least seven middle and grade schools.
It's worth noting that Gurnee, as part of Lake County, is served by a Forest Preserve District with sufficient funds to link a 100-mile countywide and regional trail system, create trails along Lake Michigan, and restore the marina, boat launch, and shoreline along the Fox River (which runs through Gurnee).
Within ten miles of Gurnee is the Lake County Area Vocational Center, the College of Lake County, Barat College, Lake Forest College, Shimer College, Trinity College, Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake. Coming soon to Lake County will be a University Center, where many colleges from outside the county will be conducting classes.
Gurnee is also within ten miles of the Great Lakes Naval Base and Hospital. All-in-all, Gurnee is a great place to live or to visit. |
